Katie Reeves named Week 21 Athlete of the Week

Katie Reeves had a big season.

In Week 18, Reeves won Athlete of the Week for a huge performance that included 23 kills and 12 digs en route to an upset over a then-ranked #1 Providence University College. She followed that up a day later with a 22 kill, 14 dig performance against University of Winnipeg College.

A couple weeks later, Reeves wasn't only named to the 2016-17 MCAC Women's Volleyball All-Conference Team, but was voted the conference's Most Valuable Player by each competing head coach.

In Week 21, Reeves and her Blazers beat Universite de Saint-Boniface 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-13) in the Semifinals of the 2016-17 Final Fours before upsetting the still-#1 ranked Providence University College Pilots in the Final, 3-2 (25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 13-25, 15-13). The Blazers won their first MCAC Women's Volleyball Championship since 2006, with Reeves being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Head Coach Evelyn Kampen spoke on how big Reeves' second-half of the MCAC was, shortly after the Blazers hoisted the trophy.

"For us I think, she wasn't middle of the pack in the first half of the semester but still getting into her position. And then she really established herself come January, she's been firing at every point. She's always been perfect in the back row, everything about her passing and her serve receive, her defence, she always plays up every ball. An absolute phenomenal passer and she's had a 2.3-stat or above basically her entire year almost, but then her hitting has excelled a lot more... The clutch games is when she really succeeds because she loves to compete and it was awesome to see her do it again."

Reeves hails from Lockport, MB and spent last year wearing the blue and gold of the Brandon University Bobcats' CIS team. Needless to say after such a successful season, Reeves seems to have found her fit in the CMU Blazers' program.
