For a program that hadn't won the Men's Volleyball MCAC title since 1987, Jason Friesen's four-year wait seems pretty small.

But in his fourth season of eligibility in the MCAC, the Canadian Mennonite University captain and leader finally got to wear the gold medal last Sunday when his Blazers swept the home side Universite de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-23) in the Championship Final, and brought home a trophy that his school had not seen since well before the fourth year setter had been born.

Friesen was also named a member of the 2016-17 Men's Volleyball All-Conference team this season, after leading his team to a 17-3 Regular Season record and the 1-seed entering last weekend's tournament.

The Blazers matched up against University of Winnipeg College in last weekend's semifinals, winning 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22) before facing USB in the Final. Friesen played an exceptional two games for the Blazers, balancing CMU's well-rounded attack and setting the blocks for a team that was a force at the net.
